On the weekends, we frequently travel out from the eastern suburbs to Brunswick, Collingwood, Fitzroy to have breakfast and it does get a bit draining with all the travel so one weekend we opted for The Firehouse located in Ringwood. I noticed it when browsing through the 2009 Good Food Guide and mentally made a note to go there when we were too lazy to travel too far.
We started off with some drinks. I had a latte which was satisfactory while A* ordered the Napoleone & Co. Apple Cider.
Napoleone & Co. Apple Cider
Ricotta hotcakes with banana and honeycomb butter
A* ordered these and was in awe as soon as he took a bite. He loved the honeycomb butter with the hotcakes but I thought there could have been more banana in the dish.
Spanish Eggs with chorizo & black pudding
I liked the soft eggs with the yolk oozing out which helped with the acidity of the napoli sauce while the chirizo gave the dish a spicy kick. This was also my first time trying black pudding which I found not to my liking.
A nice suburban cafe/restaurant which has good food but nothing worthy of tempting me back for a re-visit.
Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Value: 7/10
Will I return? No, too many options offering breakfast to come back.
