Station Hotel

Aside from the recent rise of Mexican restaurants in Melbourne, Gastropubs have also risen in popularity the past year, offering classic yet gourmet pub fare. Station Hotel is well known for their steaks and after making a few phone calls and settling for a late dinner, we were able to lock in a table on a Friday night.

We started off with a bottle of wine to warm us up.

The Charcuterie platter was a great appetiser to share between 5 people. It was very tasty and it had a great variety of cured meats, terrine and liver pate.

The boys all chose to have steaks. They all enjoyed their meals and thought they were well cooked.

The girls opted for the Pig's Trotter and it was deliciously sticky and gelatinous. The rich sauce was great with the smooth and creamy mashed potatoes and everyone loved the dish. The only thing I could pick on, would be the amount of bones in the Pig's trotter but it wasn't too big of a deal.

The Chocolate Soufflé was light and fluffy and a great chocolate flavour. This is a great dessert.

The Sticky Date Pudding is a great winter warming dessert and this was no exception. The rich butterscotch sauce melded with the moist and dense Date pudding and the vanilla ice cream helped with the sweetness.

The meal was very gratifying to all and the service was very friendly and helpful. The ambience was great, without too much din from the kitchen or dining space, even with the pub area nearby. We all enjoyed our meals and hope to return soon.

Food: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Value: 7.5/10
Will I return? Yes, I want to try the steaks next visit.

  1. On a scale of 10, how sweet would you rate the chocolate souffle. :)
