Chickilia

The wave of Korean Fried Chicken has seemed to hit Melbourne and while there have been praises sung about Gami and their 'KFC', I have never felt that it was that great. The reason behind this is due to Chickilia. Chickilia is a tiny, hidden food shop at the back of a Korean grocery store in an alleyway in Glen Waverley. It is easy to glance over and the only reason people know about Chickilia is mainly because (A) they walk through the Korean grocery to the back and see it or (B) through raves from friends.

Normally, we order a small serve of Honey Soy Chicken and a small serve of Hot Chilli Chicken with a side of pickles. The Honey Soy Chicken is delightful balance of salty soy and sweet honey, but the best thing about Chickilia? The freaking crispy chicken skin. Onto the Hot Chilli Chicken - it has the fiery korean kick of spice that is temporarily subdued by the pickled radishes. These chilli chicken wings will have you mopping your brow and reaching for more despite the spiciness. The pickled radishes are addictive and help allay the spice factor and cleanse the palate.

The flavours of the chicken pieces are delicious, the skin is crispy and inside it is juicy and just cooked.

Food: 8.5/10
Service: 8/10
Value: 6.5/10
Will I return? Yes, this is my go-to place for Korean Fried Chicken. So addictive!

    1. There are a few in the city I think. Everyone seems to like Gami which I think is just okay. Hallah on victoria St also has it but I've never tried :)
