I love green tea lattes so naturally I ordered one while waiting. Arriving in a delightfully adorable Japanese mug, it was like a much needed hug from a cute Japanese grandma. The quality matcha (green tea powder) used is from MoriHan 森半, a famous Kyoto matcha company, and while it had a prominent bitter green tea flavour, there was just enough sweetness and creaminess to balance it out.

We ended up staying for dinner for some winter warmer dishes. Miso soup came with both our meals, great to whet our appetites and warm our bellies.
I opted for curry since it is most ideal in miserable weather and the waitress recommended it with the chicken katsu. The curry was mild like most Japanese curries and there was lots of it, going well with the crispy chicken katsu.

Mr A went with the chicken kastu bento which came with the same crispy chicken katsu covered in katsu sauce and mayonnaise accompanied with a side salad and soy beans in soy sauce. The assortment and portion was both satisfying and tasty.

They also offer ready made food to go including chicken katsu sandwich, salads and sushi rolls although the availability was much depleted by the end of the day.
Maru Shih would not likely grab your attention unless you walked by and gave it more than a second glance. Prompt and friendly service with tasty food, Maru Shih is a snug spot providing great value in South Yarra.
Will I return? Yes, enjoyed the meal we had here.
