With barely a wait for a table for two, we ordered our usual coffee drinks. Ms L seemed to enjoy her long macchiato while my flat white was on the weaker side, it was still enjoyable. They use STREAT coffee beans at Breakfast Thieves - this was my first time trying them but they come with a mission of aiding disadvantaged youths with support and training which is great!
Magic & Long Macchiato ($3.50 each)
Ms L is a sucker for fritters and enjoyed the combination of flavours although she found them to be on the doughy side and slightly bland. She dislikes having to have to add salt and pepper herself but then again, it's better to do that rather than have it disgustingly salty. I had a bite and also enjoyed the flavours and the grape and cherry tomato salsa was very fresh and tasty.
The Leprechaun - Crisp sweet corn & goats’ feta fritters w grape & cherry tomato honey salsa & grilled asparagus & poached eggs ($16.50)
My appetite hasn't been the same lately so I chose the breakfast chain which had small portions to appeal to my savoury and sweet cravings. The eggs were cooked precisely and the cheesy toasted soldiers added the needed crunch and saltiness to the beautiful oozing yolk. The apple cinnamon crumble was deliciously warm and comforting and the crumble on top was delicious. Ms L and I both found the yoghurt and fruit compote was too sharp and sour for our tastes which was the only thing left untouched. Overall I loved the variety and the portion size was perfect for me.
The Breakfast Chain - Vanilla honey yoghurt on thieves made granola with summer fruit panzanella, soft-boiled eggs & toasted soldiers and apple cinnamon crumble ($16)
The service was great; staff were amiable and gracious with our requests and I think it's great that they also provide seating outside along the cafe for those who are waiting for a table. I'm sure we've all experienced the awkwardness that is loitering around the entrance and high probability of getting in the staff's way (for example, Proud Mary). I've heard many great things about their brioche pain perdu (French toast with white chocolate mascarpone!!!) so I will be back to attack that particular dish.
Will I return? Yes, mostly enjoyed our breakfast here.
